What to be prepared for as you use the Learning Design Tool

Instructional Design Automated

The Learning Design Tool automates these instructional design work tasks:

  1. Set-up of a new design document that is consistently structured

  2. Import of Content Analysis information from existing source documents

  3. Import of SME and ISD bios from existing source documents

  4. Creation of learning objectives consistent with Bloom's taxonomy

  5. Addition of learner achievement activities mapped to the leaning objectives

  6. Set-up of a module and lesson course structure based on the learning objectives

  7. Addition of instructional activities

  8. Updating of all fields in the document, including the Table of Contents

  9. Formatting of text, bullet lists, number lists

  10. Customizing of the following items, as well as the ability to share your customizations, import shared customizations, and restore the LDT default settings

The work flow you will follow consists of 5 main steps

Step One

1_Import Analysis Data button

Import Analysis Data

Based on the assumption that your Analysis phase of work is complete, this function:

  • opens source files and

  • imports selected content - including ISD and SME bios 

  • into the Content Analysis Summary that is the starting point of your new Design document. 

Step Two

2_Learning Hierarchy button

Learning Hierarchy

Assists you in writing:

  • properly formed Terminal and Enabling Learning Objectives

  • that conform to Bloom's taxonomy by:

    • Domain

    • Learning Level and

    • Learning Type.

Step Three

3_Learner Achievement

 

Learner Achievement

For each learning objective, this function assists you in:

  • adding the type of achievement activity that will be used to assess the learner’s attainment of the learning objective

  • aligned with the learning level of the objective.

Also provided is a placeholder to capture:

  • a brief description of how the learner feedback will be delivered.

Course Structure

  • Builds your initial Course Outline based on your learning objectives and learner achievement activities.

  • Automates the:

    • Editing of Module and Lesson names

    • Sequencing of content in the order that provides the best learning environment

    • Moving of learner achievement activities into a separate final module

    • Adding instructional activity types with brief descriptions, for each objective
